So on Sunday I was lucky enough to be sent to review the Vintage by Hemingway Festival on London’s Southbank. Now I’d looked at tickets for this festival last year when it was Vintage at Goodwood but never got round to going, so when it was moved to London I just had to get myself sorted.
And it did not dissapoint! In fact I felt slightly underdressed in my bowler hat and shirt dress when i sould have been in a floral shirtwaister. There was such a multitude of outfits ranging from the 1950s to the 1980s it was amazing.
Bit as well as the ticketed event in the Southbank Centre there was a free event on the Southbank itself consisting of the Vintage High Street complete with lingerie stalls, homeware, telephone paraphernalia and of course clothes!
My favourite part by far of the event though was the tea dancing on the main dance floor. Throughout the day there were bands from different genres as well as lessons and just general swing from the professionals.
All in all my favourite band was The Bombshellettes who are the only all girl swing band in the world (or maybe it’s Europe but still….) and are sensational.
They perform hits from the 1940s such as “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and are seriously worth a watch if you get the chance!
So as I mentioned earlier the amount of effort people had put into their outfits I had better show you some of them. More street style from Vintage can be seen on the Oasis Blog.
And of course the finale of the evening was hearing from the Vintage Revue Hit Parade showcasing the greatest artists of the last few decades.
Personal favourites were hearing the likes of 10CC singing “I’m not in love”, Adam Ant singing “Stand and Deliver” and The Christians performing “Harvest for the World.”
Cheesy and nostalgic all in one evening.
So there it was the Vintage review. Let me know if you went along and what you thought. Will you be there next year?
